Do I Need a Holistic Dentist to Stay Well?

I’m immunocompromised and have to be very careful. Lately, I’ve been getting sick constantly. It seems I barely have to be exposed and then I’ve got it. My neighbor, who is a huge fan of one of those reality shows, was telling me about one of the characters who has Lyme Disease and had to see a Holistic Dentist and remove all her amalgam fillings in order to get healthy. She thinks this will help me. I have two questions. How is a Holistic Dentist different from a General Dentist? Will this help me? Olivia Dear Olivia,

A Holistic Dentist Cares About Your Body

Your neighbor is probably referring to Yolanda Hadid. She made a lot of changes. Not only did she have all her amalgam fillings removed, but she also removed her breast implants. Because of the fillings, she faced huge criticism saying it was totally unnecessary. That criticism is based on the fact that the American Dental Association (ADA) says that amalgam fillings are completely safe. Yet, another organization, the FDA, puts out a warning which says, “The developing neurological systems in fetuses and young children may be more sensitive to the neurotoxic effects of mercury vapor.” This is pretty much confirming there are neurotoxic effects. Well, what about people in your situation who are immunocompromised? Or others going through treatments for various ailments? Or even healthy adults? When is there is too much mercury vapor?

How Holistic Dentists Help

A Holistic Dentist is a General Dentist who also considers how things affect your entire body. They’d never place amalgam fillings because of their high mercury content. Instead, they’ll only place mercury-free white composite fillings. They’ve also developed a method which will safely remove amalgam fillings without putting you at greater risk of ingesting or inhaling any mercury. It’s called a Sanitary Amalgam Removal. I can’t tell you whether or not it is your fillings which have contributed to your illness recently. What I can tell you is that many patients who have them removed report feeling better overall once they were replaced. I hope this helps clear some things up for you.
